Week 4 Not going so good....

Well so far week 4 isn't going so well :(

Not sure what is wrong, but I have been eating healthy.  I don't even eat the total amount of carbs and most times I believe I am eating the right good high fiber carbs and nothing is happening to my weight so far this week.  :(  I am very sad and discouraged.  I don't know if I should try South Beach or Atkins just for something different for a while and then come back to BFC or what.  I have had a total stall and I should not be having one.  Right now I am at 208 and still have lots of weight to lose before I reach my goal of 140.  It should come off cause I have hardly cheated at all.  Just last Sunday but Monday started a new week and I have been eating healthy since then.  Maybe its because things don't pass through me correctly.  I don't really know.  Sorry for the venting, but I just needed to whine to someone.

I AM SO MAD!!!

  1. I'm so sorry. From one hypothyroid sufferer to another, let me share one thing you may not have considered yet. With an already slower metabolism to begin with vs. the average person trying to lose weight, hypothyroid sufferers have to be sure to eat enough calories to prevent their metabolism from slowing down even more. If you are getting under 1200 calories a day, your metabolism will shift into a slower gear to adapt to the lower calories. I know that BFC doesn't say that you need to count calories, but I find it critical to count calories as well as watch the sugar/carbs. Make sure to get at least 1200 calories. You may actually gain a little weight at first from the initial increase in calories, but don't let that freak you out. As your metabolism picks up again in response to the increase in calories, you'll start losing again as your body balances out again. You really need to lose weight according to your health status; that's more important than what any book says. The basic outline I use for myself is: 1200 calories minimum, 120 carbs/15 grams sugar (vs. the 6/15 guidelines), eating healthy, whole foods at home (eating out or prepared foods as little as possible), bug juice every day (don't forget to log the calories for this as well). I hope that helps. Hang in there, you'll figure it all out.

  2. Hang in there! I know it can be sooo discouraging because I have had weeks when my weight didn't go down at all...and that is with NO cheating! Eventually I would drop just a pound, and then FINALLY another. That was my only thread of encouragement, but I hung onto it because it is working...just on a MUCH slower rate than I wanted. I don't know what a challenge it is to have hypothyroidism, but I do know what a slow metabolism is like, ugh! One thing that did help is when I finally got regular, which took some doing(too much fiber then not enough, yikes!)but once I figured out what worked for my body (and my body got used to the extra fiber)I began to lose more consistently. Hope this helps! Keep going with no cheating for another week and I bet you will see results! Im cheering for you!

  3. Thank you so much girls for taking time to write those encouraging comments. They mean more then you can know to me. I will stick to it for another week and try to take your advice minichick with the calories. I do take meds to increase my thyroid hormone levels and have been for some time. I just got a new dosage so hopefully after repeatedly taking the new dosage, my body will even out with the right metabolism. I am going to keep trying because I want to regain the energy I use to have when I was lighter weight. :)

  5. I'm glad to hear that you are feeling like you can keep going for another week. It sounds like you are good about taking your meds every day, which is really important, and the new dosage will take a week or two for your body to adapt to it. You really are doing fabulous! I'm so happy that your frustration is not causing you to throw in the towel. Is there anything I can do for you at this point to help out?

  6. Ginger,

I forgot to ask you if you've been checked for hypothyroidism yourself?

  7. All I have to say is dont give up. I suffer from thyroid too and I have been in the same boat as you. I have tried all kinds of diets and nothing seems to work except this one has really help me to lose a few pounds and inches. And overall I feel so much better and have energy and that is a big one for someone who has thyroid problems. I have to say that exercise has to be a part of this program or any diet program to really start losing weight. I know his book does not say this, but we have a slower metabolism and exercise will help with that. I dont know if you have looked on my blog page but check my weight stats out. I have stayed pretty much the same weight after the 1st week except this past week I had a great loss. Keep it up you are doing great. And my blog address is dchesney65.blogspot.com if you want to check it out.

  10. I just wanted to share another thought with you. This past week as I have added exercise into my routine, during the times when I wanted to quit or days when I didn't want to exercise at all, instead of accepting the talk in my head trying to talk me OUT OF exercising I realized that I could do the opposite and talk myself INTO it/continuing it. That was a light bulb moment for me. The idea that just as my mind can talk itself out of doing something, my mind can talk itself into doing something as well, struck a cord with me. For me, this has been a concrete, tangible way of helping myself push forward. You/your body will do what your mind tells it to do, so do your best to talk yourself INTO what you need to do instead of allowing your mind and old habits to talk you OUT OF what changes you are trying to make. Realizing this has made me feel like I have so much power and control over myself; the strength is coming from within me vs. outside sources of inspiration, etc., which are helpful as well, but strength that comes from within has staying power.
